The objective of this study was to identify the factors that influence the oral health of children with autism spectrum disorder. The methodology was designed to perform an integrative literature review developed in six steps, in which the guiding question was elaborated through the PICo strategy. Thus, bibliographic searches were conducted in the PubMed, EBSCOHost and Scielo databases, in which 111 publications were found and with the application of selection criteria 25 articles were chosen for the development of this review. Oral care of children with autism spectrum disorder requires patience, attention and understanding of the degree of intellectual capacity of these children. Educational strategies aimed at guardians, educators, and people involved in the evolution of these children can be instrumental in changing oral hygiene habits and in raising awareness of the importance of prevention. Furthermore, since autism spectrum disorder is a unique condition, proper management and preparation of dental surgeons is advantageous and allows many barriers of care to be circumvented.
