Resumo

Introduction: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) among LGBTQIA+ people shows a high prevalence, configuring itself as a complex problem that can be understood in the light of Minority Stress, but still little studied in the literature. Objective: To understand how IPV is structured among LGBTQIA+ couples, including motivations, dynamics in relationships and coping strategies. Method: Exploratory and qualitative study carried out with 13 users of an outpatient clinic for the LGBT population in Pernambuco, Brazil. The instrument used was a semi-structured interview, whose data were submitted to Thematic Content Analysis, based on Bardin. Results and Discussion: Three categories were established: (1) Pathways to violence; (2) Dynamics of relationships; (3) Violence and the social perspective, which revealed minority stressors such as partner LGBTphobia, lack of a support network and disbelief in health and justice systems. Final considerations: IPV among LGBTQIA+ couples is more serious in the face of minority stressors, which reveals peculiarities in these relationships that must be considered by victims and by health and justice professionals in dealing with violence.
