Resumo

The use of insulin is a therapeutic modality that can occur in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), although it may be difficult for individuals with T2DM to understand. Objective: To analyze which educational actions based on health literacy (HL) are used for guidance and management of insulin therapy in T2DM. Method: An integrative review guided by the question: "What educational actions based on health literacy are applied in insulin therapy guidance?" The databases used for data collection were SciELO, LILACS, Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed. Results: Nine articles were included. An improvement in glycemic control was observed, but aspects related to insulin therapy were not addressed in detail, nor were the HL principles applied. Conclusion: There is a scarcity of studies addressing insulin therapy in people with T2DM from the HL perspective, and the lack of details makes it difficult to identify the principles applied. Although HL seems to favor educational actions, its specific impact on insulin therapy is unclear.
