Molecular subtypes of breast cancer: clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis
Subtipos moleculares de câncer de mama: características clínico-patológicas e prognóstico
Palavras-chave:
Breast Cancer, Molecular Classification, Clinicopathological Characteristics, PrognosisResumo
Breast cancer (BC) is considered one of the most important neoplasms regarding morbidity and mortality worldwide. Molecular classification using immunohistochemistry has been highlighted, which allows tumors to be differentiated into the following molecular subtypes: luminal A, luminal B, HER2+ and triple negative (TPN). This study attempted to improve knowledge about the molecular classification of BC, by distinguishing the subtypes based on their main clinical-pathological characteristics and their prognosis. The study is an integrative literature review of the last 10 years in the PubMed, BVS and SCIELO databases, guided by the PRISMA recommendations. From the initial 291 publications found, 18 articles were analyzed, which revealed that the luminal subtypes (A and B) showed a clinical-pathological and prognostic advantage compared to the non-luminal subtypes (HER2 + and TPN). The differentiation of BC into molecular subtypes is a critical factor in understanding the disease, providing more accurate prognostic predictions and contributing significantly to the choice of the most favourable treatment in each case.
