Techniques and applications to encapsulation of copaiba essential oil: a literature review
Técnicas e aplicações para o encapsulamento do óleo essencial de copaíba: uma revisao da literatura
Palavras-chave:
Copaiba essential oil;, Encapsulation;, β-caryophylleneResumo
Copaiba essential oil is an excellent anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and healing agent. However, its high volatility and low solubility limit its extensive applications. Encapsulation technologies have been developed as promising methods for alleviating their limitations. Encapsulation helps control the release, improve solubility and bioavailability, while reducing the volatility and toxicity of essential oils, improving the efficiency of their bioactive compounds and expanding their industrial uses. This review aims to bring together articles published in the Periódico Capes, Pubmed, Science Direct and other databases, using descriptors relating to copaíba essential oil, encapsulation techniques and the application of encapsulated OEC. About 3,063 articles were found, of which 116 were selected and subsequently evaluated with title/abstract readings, and 77 were chosen as the most pertinent to address the study topic of this review. The results confirm the importance of encapsulation in the functional properties of this oil, which can be used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical and health products.
