Resumo

Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease caused by the trematode Schistosoma mansoni, whose adult forms inhabit the mesenteric vessels of the definitive host (man) and the intermediate forms develop in aquatic gastropod snails of the genus Biomphalaria. The objective of this study was to analyze the cases of Schistosomiasis in Brazil, from 2012 to 2022. The methodology used for the descriptive and retrospective study on the cases of Schistosomiasis was the analysis of data from the Information System for Notifiable Diseases (Sinan) /Datasus, recorded from 2012 to 2022. The main results were the 50,687 records of disease notifications, with an annual average of 4,607.90 cases and 67.09 deaths. The Southeast and Northeast macro-regions were responsible for the highest number of cases per year. Most of the notified infections occurred in brown (56%) and white (31%) races. Schistosomiasis is an emerging and prevalent zoonosis in Brazil, and it is important to implement more effective interventionist public policies for the prevention and control of the disease.
