Inflammation associated with sepsis and correlation with neural and cognitive disorders
Inflamação associada a sepse e correlação com distúrbios neurais e cognitivos
Palavras-chave:
Sepsis, Neurodegeneration, InflammationResumo
Sepsis is a serious disorder resulting from an unregulated response of the body to fight infections, considered the leading cause of death in intensive care units, especially in underdeveloped countries. The objective of the present study was to elaborate an integrative review on the general aspects of the mechanisms that cause sepsis and their correlation with neurodegenerative processes and cognitive alterations. For the scientific searches of this review, articles were selected from electronic databases: Scielo, PubMed, Medline, LILACS. The analysis of studies showed that cells and cytokines present in the exacerbated inflammatory process triggered by sepsis contribute to the occurrence of psychological and cognitive disorders.
