Resumo

In discussions about the development of regions, normally only economic factors are related, however, the new demands imply the need to promote sustainable development through synergy between sectors. This article presents a systematic review about Geographical Indications - GIs, with the objective of verifying their contributions in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs, highlighting SDG number 8. Thus, 58 articles published on the Mendeley platform were selected. It is understood that the territorial insertion of the GIs represents the valorization and protection of the activities of the place, presenting economic, social, environmental progress and the valorization of the cultural heritage. However, its main obstacle lies in the formulation of a public policy capable of meeting the particularities of each product.
