Resumo

The objective of the work was to identify and characterize the changes in land use and land cover that occurred between 1984 and 2018, in the watershed of the Uraim River, Paragominas-PA. The method used was deductive, with a quantitative and qualitative scope, and an applied and explanatory nature. Supervised classification was using ENVI Classic, v.5.1 software. The matrix data (Thematic Mapper and Operational Land Imager images from the LANDSAT 4-5 and 8 satellites) used acquired from the USGS platform. Eight classes defined: water bodies, primary forest, altered forest, degraded forest, agricultural activities, exposed soil, urban area, and clouds and shadows. The data obtained indicated that between 1984 and 1999 there was a loss of areas (n= 127,109.12 ha; 44%) in the primary forest class and an increase in the agricultural areas (n= 47,985.03 ha; 9%) in the watershed region, which contributed to the deforestation aspect; this basin suffers environmental pressures, which can seriously impact the water resources that supply a large part of the municipality. Thus, the development of management plans for land use and occupation and maintenance of Environmental Protection Areas is one of the tools indicated for environmental conservation and recovery of degraded areas.
