Quality of life of elderly people undergoing renal dialysis treatment: a scope review

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a syndrome secondary to permanent alteration in the function and/or structure of the kidney, presenting a slow and progressive evolution. Hemodialysis is the most used form of treatment in the elderly with CKD, a treatment that generates limitations and impacts that affect both the individual's life and that of the family. The objective of this study is to analyze, in the current literature, the quality of life of elderly people undergoing hemodialysis treatment. This is a scope review, according to the review method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). The descriptors elderly, quality of life and hemodialysis were used in the databases National Library of Medicine (PubMed), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Database in Nursing - Brazilian Bibliography (BDENF). A total of 250 were found, of which 08 met the established inclusion criteria. This review shows that hemodialysis treatment in the elderly has an impact on the quality of life of this population, however there is still a gap in the literature on the subject.
